Welcome!

Welcome to the Lonely Tech Diver, a website and blog that strives to combine humor, with information, and travel stories. Though this site, we hope to share our love of diving and our strong belief in the the importance of high quality training in preventing dive fatalities. In addition, we will discuss some of the lessons we have learned throughout our dive careers, or that our peers have learned in a way that is meaningful and easy to comprehend. Furthermore, we hope to inspire conversation around various types of diving, equipment, locations and so much more. This will be facilitated through blogs about dive locations, gear reviews, general shenanigans, and questions to think about. As we bring this blog up to speed, we hope to be able to create even more content and expand to include all of the other divers out there in the world. For example, Ryan would like to include a podcast, where we can have conversations with some of the great dive explorers and scientists around the world and inspire the same sense of adventure in the next generation of divers, that once captivated all of us. For many, this sense of adventure and awe of the natural world has never disappeared.
Now, you may be asking, why the Lonely Tech Diver? There are several facets to the name, such as the fact that tech diving can often be lonely as you are unable to talk to your buddy for extended periods of time, especially during decompression. Or, it could refer to the darkness and aloneness that one might feel at deeper depths, or that can sometimes be associated with Nitrogen Narcosis. Further, it may also be a play on the fact that as we go deeper and get into more technical dives, there is less sea life and fewer dive buddies we can readily find. Unfortunately, it was none of those. See, the idea came from Johnna while on a trip to Roatan Honduras. Nic was doing some photographic documentation with a new underwater camera, but Ryan seemed to be the primary subject of most of his photos. Johnna jokingly decided to call Nic out on the dive buddy bond (a dive bromance of sorts). She asked if Nic was taking pictures of Ryan for a lonely tech diver magazine, to which Ryan replied he was just the most photogenic (he is not). Thus, an inside joke was born and the idea of a content brand was created. Now it should be noted, that Ryan and Nic have been diving together since 2014 and have managed to create their own "sophisticated" sign language for diving, so the fact is, that if they were to need to find other dive buddies in a lonely tech diver magazine, they in fact may not know what to do with themselves. However, that will be a source for later discussion.
In the Meantime, give some thought to these questions:
1. What inspired you to start diving in the first place?
2. Do you have a "dive hero" that you would like to meet?
3. Where is your next go-to dive destination?
Until Next time,
- The Lonely Tech Diver
